The paintings of the series "Limits of PortLand" unfold visually vivifying, yet authentic portraits of the land, in other words: snapshots of the topography of our planet, whose physiognomy today is a result of several millenia of anthropogenic domestication. Viewers are invited to take their time, pause for a moment, and look more closely. In order to see (things) differently – to realize complex interrelations that are impossible to behold by taking just a short glance. And to become aware of the urgency to find new avenues for a placeful future of our planet and the human civilization.
"Limits of Portland" the second book about the PortLand cycle of works is available. It contains more than 40 photographic reproductions of the paintings and sculpture that are part of the new series. In addition, Dutch curator Jurriaan Benschop has written an essay on the series, and in an interview with Berlin-based journalist Frank Lassak (arte magazine) I have outlined the ideas, intentions and motivation behind „PortLand“.
