Description

For many people, 'to believe' is associated with an insitutionalized religion, with its set of rules, symbols, and narratives passed across generations and throughout history. The loss of faith characterized by the 20th century is perhaps an overall good development, but it comes with a set of problems. In this piece we want the viewer to ponder the question of faith and what baggage, literally, one brings to the table thinking about this topic.

The idea to paint inside suitcases was born out of our longing to travel and see the world. Even before the corona pandemic, we did not have as many opportunities to travel as we wished we have had, so the series of suitcase works was our way to manifest our longings, making them come true in a more symbolic kidn of way. This work is one of many, and 7 of these suitcases actually travelled across the Atlantic to be showcased in New York as a part of a bigger installation.
