Artistic practice
Merav Leibküchler is a performer and multimedia artist exploring presence in the state of nonexistence, and dimensions within the void. What lies in the gap between presence and nothingness? What is the difference between matter and energy? What does the void look like?
Leibküchler draws inspiration from Albert Einstein's relativity theory and quantum mechanics regarding mankind's understanding of the universe and the ability to expand outside our narrow orbit and see as well as experience the hidden facets of existence.
Her background in the performance art field and her formal training as a painter allows Leibküchler to combine traditional art practices with advanced new media techniques fusing an analogue approach with a digital one, shifting between tradition and innovation.
In her work she examines the boundaries between abstract and figurative styles, using elementary and geometric forms, rich textures and patterns creating new compositions; eliciting a consciousness of space and surface, portraying a state in which a fragmented past, present, and future are unified.
